QUICK DESCRIPTION

A life cleric of Ilmater, god of martyrs, Deirein is a young adventurer who came into Ilmater's favor by saving his town from a cursed beast (homebrew world with cursed wildlife) and probs should've died in the process but the god was like "get its ass" so he killed the creature in a burst of inflict wounds.

Anyways, the dude actually has a loving fam and a spitfire little sister but he is afflicted with Curiosity, so left the little fishing town he grew up in to try to ~~feel worthy of Ilmater's favor~~ make a positive change in the world by facing the darkness. Bonus points, the man can COOK, was originally planning to take over his fams tavern/inn before adventuring.

That campaign is dead as well, bc I no longer talk with the GM or one of the other players, so I Miss Him. But he's with me still, love him to bits. He's just a guy trying to figure everything out all at once, and is managing well enough despite it all. Except for being gay. He's a mess around a competent attractive man, which is EXACTLY when he DOESN'T want to be a MESS, ILMATER WHY AM I LIKE THIS-

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Bodily Age: 22

Height: 5'7

Build: lean but somewhat defined muscles

Hair: auburn hair usually cut somewhat short, but has barely grown long enough for him to keep it out of his face

Eyes: rich warm brown

Skin: lightskinned, but tans instead of burns

SIGNATURE FEATURES

He has a woven bracelet on his left wrist that he fiddles with when nervous. It's from his little sister, and he never takes it off.

FUN FACTS

He has short king energy, but is 5'7", which is average height thank you very much.
Was notorious for not allowing many taste-testers, but always gave his dog Alvis her cut of the prep. "Sous chef has to get her cut."

RELATIONSHIPS

FAMILY

Deirein's father, who was the chef of the family with a green thumb. He has high energy and is a bit chaotic, but mostly in appearance.

He actually knows what he's doing and risks are calculated, and if he is occasionally bad at math, he laughs and learns.

If a kid does something stupid or dangerous that he isn't actually mad about (which is most things his kids do), he will lecture them publicly but will high five them at the next convenient moment and give them a treat, or some leftovers if they arne't his kids.

His mother, who was the person who did repairs around the house and taught her children how to fight for self-defense and common sense.

She adores her family and is fairly protective of them (even if they don't need protecting).

She has held back her daughter Grid from a fight when the other person said something EXTREMELY inflamatory, and then she let go and watched the beat down.

Deirein's 11 year old sister who is an absolute spitfire. He practically raised her, and while she loves him dearly he is not exempt from her sassiness. At least, not entirely.

Trouble follows her, but to be fair that's typically becaus she starts it. She is incredibly protective of her older brother, and makes it clear that SHE is the only one allowed to bully him.

She has plans to be head cook at the family tavern one day, and has quite the Gordon Ramsey approach. If it doesn't taste good or if she thinks you knew better and still acted stupid, she'l tell you to your face.

Backstories

Wait, as in multiple? Yes.

He hasn't been in my life as long as some others, but he is still very dear to me and is part of the dimension hopping team to an extent, so has different scenarios and backstories of a sense.

CANON EVENTS

When he was 19, he was watching the sky on the way to work at Ilmater's temple and noticed a winged Curse Beast approaching. He immediately started warning everyone he could to head inside or under cover, darting around town as fast as he could.

He managed to alert everyone in town, but in the process drew the attention of the Beast. He tried to lead it away from town so it wouldn't hurt anyone or damage anything, and while he succeeded, he faced it alone.

It grabbed him in sharp talons and made to fly off with him, and he knew he would't make it... but was determined to bring it down with him.

Ilmater had noticed his act to save the townsfolk at his own peril, and Deirein drew from the newfound power to Inflict Wounds on the creature with enough power to drop them both from the sky. The fall should have killed him. If he's honest with himself...it did.

But Ilmater saw something in him. Enough to stabilize him until a cleric could come and heal him.

Suppose he has to live up to it then.
